Joy is all around us, in many areas of our life at any moment of our day. Joy may be one of the easiest emotions we can learn to cultivate in our lives in fact it is just a smile away.
Joy will lead us to so much more in life, if we stay open to it.
I was at a Neale Donald Walsch retreat not long ago, which was a joy in itself, being around Neale and a number of other what were prior to the event only “online” friends. Neale had a lovely person there who introduced the participants to “Laughter Yoga” which I found totally enJOYable. We participated in the laughter yoga exercises a number of times throughout the retreat, which really helped everyone to lighten up after some the deep work people were going through. At first, until we really got into the laughter yoga, and laughed ourselves silly, joy was in the air.
Having been in recovery for many years one of the most recognizable joys is when we have the opportunity to see old friends we may not have come in contact with for some time. Our conventions and birthday celebrations are always looked forward to in anticipation of these JOYous times of being with friends and celebrating our recovery from our addictions.
Being out in nature is one of the quickest ways for my energy to shift into joy. There have been many times when I may not have been feeling good when I was able to get outdoors and I noticed this immediately. When I was living in Las Vegas I would go to either Red Rock Canyon or Mt. Charleston for a quick get away. My trips to Mt. Charleston were the best indicators of joy as after pulling off the main highway and getting onto the road which takes you up to the mountain I noticed the change as soon as I got onto Kyle Canyon Road. (Route 39/157) I think it was because I knew I would be losing cell service soon. It was like all the cares of whatever was going on in my Las Vegas life were being left behind and now I was left with the joy of being out in nature.
If you really want to increase the joy you feel in your life all you need to do is feel the joy in your heart when you look in the mirror. Because if we want more joy we will not find it until we feel the joy for ourselves. Without joy for ourselves we will have a hard time finding it in the world.
