WHAT’S NEXT? | Benefits of Peace

“Give Peace a Chance” by John Lennon is a good theme song for this article. When you make peace your top priority you are well on your way to a new experience of life. Gone will be the chaos and disappointments you may have been experiencing in your life.

The simplest way I can explain what peace means to me is a lack of conscious thought. Sure you may still be thinking, however it is not as guided as you typically experience when you are trying to figure something out. Do you see the difference? A thought can come to you and leave without you having to give it any energy.

I really enjoy spending time out in nature for a number of reasons. Some of the reasons are the scenery, the fresh air and relaxed atmosphere to name a few. When I am looking for peace, either when meditating or hiking while in nature the typical thoughts which come to me are things that do not create a negative thought or emotion. For example the sight of a bird or the sounds of a nearby stream are just pleasant things.

In your everyday life you have to deal with thoughts about your bills, relationship or health issues these types of thoughts tend to bring up negative emotional energy.

As you learn how to shift to a more positive or peaceful state of mind you will begin to look at these same negative thoughts from a place of observation instead of attaching the emotional connection to the thought.

You will see your level of peace go up in a direct correlation to the amount of energy you attach to your thoughts. This is why meditation and other forms of slowing down your thoughts are so beneficial to you.

Mediation does not have to be about the lack of thoughts as much as it is about focusing instead on something neutral, for instance your breathing. There are plenty of breathing techniques which have you count or otherwise think about your breath. Mediation is still one of the easiest and most effective ways you can bring peace into your life. It is also the best recognized based on the number of different ways you can meditate.

You really have one of two choices, you can choose chaos and all it brings you or you can choose peace and enjoy all of its benefits. I realize the choice should be an easy one; however it will take regular effort to make the changes necessary to bring more peace to into your life.

  1. Hi Mark
Enjoyed reading your post and will think about what you are saying here. Getting out and enjoying a walk in the open air is a great way to find some time for yourself. When we are all so busy worrying about our lives, sometimes just taking that time out can help.

    • Peace does not have to be a long drawn out process. I think that is where I and many can get off track. It can be as simple as a 10 second………pause in whatever we are doing.

    Hi Mark
For me meditation seems such a unattainable state to achieve. So much whirling around in my head, constantly!

The irony is I would probably benefit from meditation more than some others!

Not on the total mind clearing that meditation brings, but I have found (read) a solution to reduce it.

EMail – read what comes in daily, and give it a good hard look.

    Does this help?
Do air need this information for now?
Is this giving me the content I expected?
Is this interesting, but not covering a thing i am doing now?

    Some are just unsubscribed
Some are routed straight into my Evernote.com.com account using the direct email in address.

What that does is stop most of the emails arriving, stopping me reading them, all day, filling my head with thoughts that, while good and interesting, are not on my path…. So are distractions, mind clutter, and make me loose focus.

I recently, like the last week or so, got into giveaways – and went into three, the last one, barely..

Everyone you go for a giveaway, it is enter your email address…. We get goodies, they get our addresses…

I set up a new account – so a master account for these, then set up a forward for each giveaway site – so every offer signed up from say Cyber Monday Giveaway had the address Cyber@

I could track the email sharing etc, and anyone doesn’t play fair, I can delete the whole forwarder,

So, an email comes in, accept or double opt in, then get the link, download.

Hard work keeping up with the emails, so many, and trying to live in Outlook – so already 1,000 -12,00 emails NOT OPENED!

So, the exact opposite of being calm!

Here is the easiest mediation I can share with you and it will work. Do it for a minute or an hour, does not matter.

Stop and focus on your breathing, feel the breath come in, hold it briefly and release, repeat, repeat and repeat :)

    Hey Mark,

Excellent article my friend. Bringing positive energy into one’s life through positive thoughts and mediation can transform your life to levels that you never thought possible. But, like you said Mark, it takes “regular effort” and consistent action to condition our minds against the norm to today’s society.

Thanks so much for sharing Mark,

    Kevin

    Hi Mark,
A good point with good advice about how to go about it!
I enjoy walking for that same reason, and in fact here’s a further example…
I go running, and when people say isn’t it horrible in the rain or snow, and I say ‘no it’s great!’
Running in the snow and rain really puts that feel of nature right in your face – literally!
If people take your advice and go for a walk simply to enjoy the surroundings, they will feel more peaceful.
    Cheers, Gordon
